I’ve been taking my kids to the South Gate Patricia G.Mitchell swim for their swimming lessons, and while there are some positive aspects I’ve encountered significant issues that need addressing. The instructors at this pool have been wonderful. Both of my kids have learned how to swim here, thanks to the few kind and caring workers. They make the lessons enjoyable and are great with children. However, the rules and expectations at this pool are becoming increasingly unreasonable. As of June 4, 2024, they now require kids aged 8 and above to be over 48 inches tall to swim alone. Previously the rule was simply for kids to be 8 and up, regardless of height. This new policy seems arbitrary and unnecessarily restrictive. Another major issue is the cleanliness of this facility. The shower walls have mold growing on them, and the entire place always smells terrible. It’s concerning how such poor maintenance is allowed to continue. I’ve attached some pictures to ilustraste the state of the showers. I strongly recommend management re-evaluate their new height policy. Additionally, immediate attention is needed to address the cleanliness and hygiene of the pool area particularly the showers .

Edit 12/22/2024 - once again winter brochure misprinted. Says closed 12/24-1/1 but guess what. Instagram say 12/21-1/1. They really don't double check, what's also frustrating is I called 2x and in-person asked before the winter brochure printed about closures dates and they said no we're not closing. They are closed for winter break, their facility is inaccessible which means they are closed. Like 3x told wrong information. It's ridiculous that something as basic as hours of operation is so inconsistent accross platforms, brochure, the Instagram, website, and calling. Even their website on the same page adult swim hours are shown 2x with different hours. Is it sat and sun 12-1 or 12-2? People get it together, every semester.

I've been coming here for 2 years now out of convenience,they are open year round mostly. the pool itself is clean and well kept. I learned to swim here, and the instructors are good and knowledgeable. Monday through Friday if you are an adult for any adult swim time its shared with the swim team. They take up majority of the lanes and there's maybe 4-5 free lanes. It's gotten more and more busy and they shrink the lanes closer to the swimmeets making it harder to share them. They charge $15/month for just the single splash swim membership and have family plans, daily rate is like $5 which isnt alot ive paid more at other pools. They are not good about advising last minute closure dates like today's swim meet which is not on the sg connect, Instagram or from memory posted at the windows or walls. I didn't receive a text even though I'm signed up for notices and get them once every few months mostly when the spa or pool is closed for some kind of maintenance issue. Don't get them when they're closed for staff training and if you only come majority weekends or miss a week like me and they post them you don't find out until you've showed up and turned away. The women's changing rooms have mold on the walls and graffiti. There are many times you will find sanitary napkins shoved between the crevices between stalls and currently there is blood streaked on the large stall at the end that has been there for more than 2 weeks. I have seen tiny worms in the still water around the restroom drains. They were closed for 3 months from December 2023-March 2024 for maintenance that does not seem to have extended to making upgrades to the facility itself. If you come here, please make sure your children or yourself are not walking around bare foot. The staff themselves are nice not much to say they are professional but not overtly social. I know they clean and mop the best they can but this place need a power washer an upgrades which I think the city can afford to invest.

Great place to come and have fun with the family at the swimming pool. Multiple lifeguards rotate the large swimming pool so you can have a safe time in the water. Do bring proper swim attire as the staff makes sure rules are followed so everyone can have a good time. The showers have reliable hot water. They also have swimming lessons for all ages, aqua aerobics, lap swimming, senior lap swimming, recreational swimming, they host competitions, they have trampolines for those who know how to swim and much more. I go there with my 2 year old so she can learn to swim and loosen up in the water. Kids under 4, I believe, come in for free, but an adult per child has to be with them in the water. You can also become a monthly member, either individually or as a family and come in for free for the whole month, well worth it if you want to make it a habit for the summer or otherwise. If you want to come and bring your swimmers and they are of age to be there in the pool by themselves, you can seat in the stadium and watch them play or take pictures and video, as it is allowed.

Honestly this HIGH PRICED public pool is just atrocious. The pool was filthy and slimy at the bottom. The men’s shower/changing room is disgusting, actual human feces on the floor. It looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in months. There is actual mildew and fungus growing on the floor. The staff is super unfriendly and disrespectful. Never coming here again.
