I recently spent a week at this hotel with my girlfriend, and overall, the experience was a mix of highs and lows. Stay there and have all meals outside the property.||||Pros:||||Beautiful Hotel & Comfortable Rooms: The hotel itself is very nice. Our room was comfortable and well-appointed. The only thing I wish was different is that the fireplace in the bedroom (and in the Vista Lounge) was authentic wood-burning rather than gas, which would have added a cozy, rustic ambiance.||Excellent Spa & Gym: Both the spa and fitness center are top-notch. I thoroughly enjoyed the spa treatments, and the gym was well-equipped for a good workout.||Good Service: The staff members were friendly and attentive. Any requests were handled promptly and courteously.||||Cons (Mainly the Food):||||Day 1 (Lunch at Apex): The buffet featured cold French fries, and the burger was oddly wrapped in plastic, which felt quite unappetizing for a 5-star hotel.||||Night 1 (Sushi Place): I had to return my sushi order entirely because the rice tasted off. The chef admitted it was missing vinegar, which is a basic component of sushi rice.||||Night 2 (Apex & Burger & Bourbon): I ordered a NY steak that was so disappointing I had to return it. Hoping for a simple fix, I asked for a burger from the sister restaurant Burger & Bourbon, but was told I had to go there in person. Once at Burger & Bourbon, the burger I received was completely inedible. The kitchen acknowledged the problem and kindly removed it from the bill.||||My girlfriend and I truly wanted to love our stay and enjoy the on-site dining, but the consistently poor food quality drove us to eat outside the hotel for most of our meals. For a 5-star establishment, the culinary issues were unexpected and frustrating.||||||Housekeeping Issues||Our room was often not serviced by the time we returned from skiing in the late afternoon—a time when we expected it to be clean and ready. This happened every other day, despite multiple requests to have our room made up in the morning.||Bottom Line:||||If you’re looking for a beautiful hotel with comfortable rooms, a lovely spa, a well-equipped gym, and good service, this place delivers. However, if fine dining is a key part of your vacation, you may want to consider alternative dining options until the hotel addresses its kitchen issues. Hopefully, they will make improvements soon to match the otherwise high standards of the property.

The main reason I booked the Montage was the ability to ski-in and ski-out. I should have done more research to learn that the Children’s Ski School is on another part of the mountain. You can reach the ski school by taking two lifts and using some Green (Easy) trails, but unfortunately you can’t ski back as ski school ends at 3:45pm and that’s exactly when the 2 lifts you need to reach the Montage close. We had spoken to a front desk employee who said the lifts would be open a little longer and we’d be able to ski back, but the 2 days we tried this, the lifts closed exactly as listed at 3:45 and we were stuck taking the shuttle back (approximately a 10 minute drive). And that’s another problem. The Montage shuttle picks up from the Ski School at 15 and 45 past the hour. Our kids’ returned to Ski School from their day of lessons at exactly 3:45. We wanted to get an update from their instructors on how they did and give the instructors tips, so we missed the 3:45 shuttle and were forced to wait around until the 4:15 shuttle. As we stood for 20 minutes in the parking lot, I could see there is a St. Regis hotel within walking distance of ski school. If we ski Deer Valley with our kids again, I think that would be a more convenient option. ||A few other notes that I would have found helpful before I booked the Montage:||There is a ski rental shop at the Montage. It is called Compass Sports. I didn’t see anything about this on the hotel’s website, so I had pre booked ski rentals near the kids’ ski school. We were able to store our skis at Compass Sports each night and the employees were incredibly helpful in putting on the kids’ ski boots. At the end of the day, Compass Sports had hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies sitting by the door. ||We were in a Vista View Suite and it was very large and comfortable. We had a kitchen, two fireplaces and a washer and dryer. I wish I had known about the washer and dryer as I would have packed differently, but not sure if all the suites are similarly equipped. ||The bedroom had two windows, but only one had a black out shade. The other window had a thin privacy shade. Unfortunately in that same direction is a construction site and they had two large floodlights on all night that kept the room looking like midday. We complained to the front desk and they had a blackout paper installed over the window and that solved the problem. They kindly offered to come take it down each morning and reapply it each evening, but we thought that was a bit much and had it kept up for the rest of our stay. There was also beeping happening from outside all night, every night. Not sure if this was from the construction site or snow making equipment on the mountain, but ear plugs solved this issue for us. ||Despite these issues, we did have a good stay at the Montage. We loved the daily s’mores, all the restaurant options, the tube hill out back, and the kind employees.

This is the MOST fun resort for families. We went during non-ski season to make it more affordable and still found so much to do. They have s'mores every night, a bowling alley, and a game room where all the games are FREE. The hotel shuttle takes you quickly to the town of Park City where there are tons more activities to enjoy (including skiing during the winter if you want a break from Deer Valley). And luxury - wow - a whole other level. We've already booked our next vacation here.

I learned to ski in the stone ages: straight skis, long drives to the mountain, greasy spoon lodges at lunch and long lines. So it never fails to amaze me how the Montage smooths away all of the rough edges, leaving you only with the pleasurable aspects of skiing. (A) The location is perfect: one gets ski in/out to two chair lifts. (B) Compass Sports, the on-property rental shop offers an astounding range of equipment –e.g., Kastle skis– with expert boot fitters (all of whom seem to Kiwis). They also warm your boots over night and have staff available to help you put them on and take them off. (C) The restaurants all offer hearty, high quality food. Service can be a little jittery at the beginning of the season as the serving team settles in, but the food is always terrific. However, more healthy options would be welcome.||||As to the hotel itself, it’s sort of the ultimate in the large, North American experiences. We’ve stayed at comparable Four Seasons, Fairmonts and the Stein Eriksen. We find the Montage to offer the best overall experience. The basic rooms are very comfortable and appropriate for managing ski gear. The suites are even more comfortable. The presence of a full gym, lap pool, and spa make non-skiing hours highly pleasurable. And the service is exemplary, particularly under the leadership of Sean, the hotel general manager who joined a little over a year ago. ||||The only downside is the price. You pay top dollar. You also receive a lot of bang for your buck. We’ve made multiple visits to the property already and look forward to many more in the future.

Montage Deer Valley was overall a big disappointment . This was a special occasion so we decided to go for luxury. To be honest, it was basically "expensive" and not luxury, or maybe my idea of luxury is different than others. |Here is the list of pros and cons.... |Pros|1. Beautiful property |2. Spacious suite (although that came at a price)|3. Shuttle to & from town (which you need !)|4. Shuttle drivers were the best employees at the property.. very friendly, helpful, & knowledgeable. |5. Lovely live music & ambience in the lounge area in the evenings. ||Cons|1. Room: heat system was weird.. constantly blowing and never could get temperature to adjust. |2. No coffee maker... just an espresso machine that didn't really work very well and also tasted terrible. Also, no microwave. Just a small fridge.|3. Concierge mailed brochure that said "free coffee" in Vista lounge from 6-8am, and went to get some & they said that was wrong it was 5-7am (who is getting up at that hour for free coffee on vacation?). Told me I could buy it at the coffee shop , which I did and it was terrible and then the worker asked for a tip saying " can you help a girl out?" Also, coffee shop closes at 2pm, so if you want coffee after 2pm you are out of luck. I feel like having complimentary coffee in the lounge area for guests all day is a no-brainer, especially in cold weather. |4. First night we went to Burgers & Bourbon for dinner. We ordered cocktails ... I ordered a margarita & the waitress asked what kind of tequila I wanted in my drink & then recommended one. It was ok.. nothing special... when the bill came it was $65.00 (she failed to tell me that the tequila she recommended was "something special." Seriously... it what world was I in? I had the chili and it was very salty so I only ate about 1/3 of it. My husband had a burger and he said it was good, but nothing special.|5. Second day I had altitude sickness pretty badly..... several employees kept encouraging me to order the "altitude tea," and how well it worked. So I finally called room service and ordered it. 15 minutes later they called and told me they were out of it. geez|6. Same day I ordered chicken noodle soup from room service. It was meh & $34 including the tip. |7. Basically, we had to go off property to get an interesting meal that wasn't completely overpriced for what it was. (I highly suggest dinner at Chimayo on Main St.)|8. You have to valet park.. no option to park yourself & they charge $50 a day for valet. We came and went a fair amount so that was annoying and tipping gets old when you don't have an option to do it yourself. |9. Fees: Just be aware that fees are costly... in addition to our room we paid $200 a day in additional fees and taxes. Just fyi|10. Apparently dogs can stay at this "luxury" hotel. There were a few dogs near our suite and they would bark off & on, day & night. (I love dogs, but really?)||Maybe none of this would have bothered us so much if we hadn't searched for the perfect place for a special occasion and looked forward to it. We are more than willing to spend the money on a special place, but sadly this place doesn't live up to all the hype. Also, Montage has yet to send me a survey to review my visit, so that is why I came to Tripadvisor. ||Long story short...... I do not recommend Montage Deer Valley.

Amazing amazing amazing. The facilities and the staff are all incredible. Has a steam room, sauna, pool, hot tubs, showers, and lounge. Tons of toiletries. The high west whiskey salted caramel truffles in the lounge were insane. Gorgeous views from the pool and main hot tub. The restorative massage was amazing. We did 60 minutes and I had Samantha. Truly one of the greatest massages I have ever had. This massage has a 16 step essential oil treatment and it was divine. The front desk staff, locker room attendants, and servers were all so helpful and friendly. The entire property is stunning. Will absolutely be back here!
