Always loved this park. It definitely needs updating/maintenance. Shame they don't have the midway pools in service. It used to be beautiful water pools, especially at the world's sphere. The sounds and water display were the biggest and best features of the park.

Have nice pool but locker is not kept clean. No attendance cleaning regular basis. Life guards don't’ care about people who does not take shower before coming into pool. Be careful taking kids to the pool because one lifeguard with bold hair threatens kids. He has his own rule which is against the law. Don’t have him close to your kids. If it happens, contact manager or call NYPD.

I’m always impressed by this place. $75 for six months of unlimited pool access is a great deal in the city, so there’s really no reason to complain.

Yet, after 31 years of swimming in pools around the world, I’ve seen some curious things here.

Let’s start at the beginning.

The parking is shared with the park, and while it’s often under the bridge where birds perch, you can usually find a spot. Sure, you might encounter a bit of mess from the birds, but that’s just part of the charm of city life.

At the entrance, one staff member always asks me for my lock — just me, it seems. No one else is ever asked. In most modern facilities, even those with lower fees, lockers come with built-in mechanical or electronic locks, so carrying your own isn’t necessary. But here, it’s a bit different.

The changing rooms are another story. There’s no clear separation between the clean and dirty zones, so on rainy days, people bring their muddy shoes right up to the lockers, mingling with those in clean, wet flip-flops. It’s not ideal, especially when your towel or clothes might brush against the floor, but it could be easily fixed. Though I’ve never seen a cleaning staff member there, that’s probably just coincidence.

The lockers themselves aren’t always spotless. A layer of dust often covers the tops, and it’s best not to place anything on them. Still, there’s a bench — though it’s one bench for 20-30 lockers, so I’ve learned to make do.

Then there are the showers. The water only runs for 30 seconds at a time, and you have to press the button again to keep it flowing. The walls? Often covered in clumps of hair, as if people are getting haircuts in there.

The pool itself is decent, with three lanes and designated speeds — slow, medium, and fast. However, the “fast” lane is usually occupied by elderly swimmers who take their time. I admire their dedication to fitness, but it makes training a bit tricky when you’re constantly having to pass them, likely causing some discomfort for everyone involved. The lifeguards don’t seem too interested in sorting it out.

And, of course, it’s hard to swim a lap without spotting a stray band-aid or, yes, more hair on the bottom of the pool.

Still, this is the best pool in the area. With just a few improvements, it could easily become a place that truly respects itself and its guests. Would you do it, please?

Well maintained community ice rink with very low prices and great hours. Lockers are available for 75c (2025). You must use a physical dollar to exchange for quarters at the register, so come prepared if you need a locker.

The pool is good with a few exceptions:

- Lots of times there's repairs going around that can leave the pool unavailable for weeks to a month.
- Tends to get crowded during the late afternoon and evenings, especially during the summer
- Reduced swim hours during the summer, no early mornings or late nights. The pool opens and closes early in the summer because the outdoor pools open up.
- Basically, avoid this pool during the summer, there were too many incidents this past summer where a kid took a #2 in the water and everyone had to be evacuated.

However, out of all the nyc rec center pools, this is the best one. My advice would be to use this pool in the winter when it's least crowded, either in the late morning or early afternoon hours.

If you have a 9-5 job and pay taxes, this municipal pool is likely not for you. Starting on 6/29/2024, the pool hours are from 11 am to 7 pm. You should never pay for a full-year membership for this pool; it will either be closed for long durations with little notice or have hours that are not compatible for working swimmers.

Beginning Monday, 9/9/2024 through Monday, 9/30/2024, pool will close for repairs. The center will reopen to the public on Tuesday, 10/1/2024.

Members who have been using pool this summer may be eligible for a two-month extension of their membership for free. Check the website for instruction.
